Where these characters come from

Bold script came later than plain script and was encoded in one piece, so unlike the regular cursive set it has no borrowed characters and every letter matches.

Like most styles here, cursive bold letters live in Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block โ€” why that block exists.

What people use cursive bold text for

The heavier script is used where plain cursive disappears against a busy background โ€” over a photo in a story, on a stream overlay, in a profile header. It reads at smaller sizes than regular cursive because the strokes are thicker, which matters on a phone.

How to get cursive bold text

  1. Type or paste your words into the box above.
  2. Find the Cursive Bold row โ€” it is the first one โ€” and press Copy.
  3. Paste it wherever you need it. The style travels with the text, because you are carrying different characters rather than formatting.

Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere. If the text arrives plain instead of styled, the receiving field normalised it; that happens for a specific reason and no tool can prevent it.

The same thing goes by several names โ€” bold script โ€” and they all describe this one technique. There is no settled term, because nobody named these character sets for this purpose in the first place.

Cursive Bold vs Cursive

Regular Cursive is finer and reads as more delicate, but eleven of its characters come from an older Unicode block and sit slightly differently. Cursive Bold was encoded in one piece, so it is the more consistent of the two if the mismatch bothers you.

Known problems with cursive bold text

Thicker strokes mean the letters touch at small sizes, and in a few fonts the script forms merge into an unreadable run.

These characters fail in four distinct ways across all styles โ€” normalisation, missing font coverage, stripped combining marks and mixed-script rejection.

A note on screen readers

These are not fonts, they are separate Unicode characters. Screen readers often read them wrong or skip them entirely. What that means.

Common questions

Is cursive bold text a real font?
No. These are separate Unicode characters that happen to look cursive bold. That is why the look survives copy and paste: you are not copying formatting, you are copying different characters.
Why do numbers stay unchanged?
Unicode defines no cursive bold numerals, so digits are left as they are. Every tool that claims otherwise is substituting digits from a different style, which looks inconsistent next to the letters.
Will screen readers read this correctly?
Usually not. Depending on the software the characters are spelled out with technical names or skipped entirely. Use the style for decoration, not for anything that has to be understood.
