Where these characters come from
Squared Latin capitals were encoded for use in technical and transport signage, where a boxed letter marks a category. There are no lowercase forms and no digits, so this set only works for short, all-caps text.
What people use square text for
Boxed capitals read as labels, which is their most common use: a tag at the start of a bio line, a category marker, a clan prefix. With no lowercase and no digits, anything beyond a short all-caps word falls apart.

How to get square text
- Type or paste your words into the box above.
- Find the Square row โ it is the first one โ and press Copy.
- Paste it wherever you need it. The style travels with the text, because you are carrying different characters rather than formatting.
Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere. If the text arrives plain instead of styled, the receiving field normalised it; that happens for a specific reason and no tool can prevent it.
The same thing goes by several names โ boxed letters, squared text, box letters โ and they all describe this one technique. There is no settled term, because nobody named these character sets for this purpose in the first place.

Square vs Square Filled
Both are capitals-only and digit-free. The outlined version is lighter and can carry a short word; the filled version is heavy enough that two or three characters is the practical limit.

Known problems with square text
Boxed capitals are encoded as symbols rather than letters, so some fields treat them as punctuation and reject them in a name.
These characters fail in four distinct ways across all styles โ normalisation, missing font coverage, stripped combining marks and mixed-script rejection.
These are not fonts, they are separate Unicode characters. Screen readers often read them wrong or skip them entirely. What that means.
Common questions
- Is square text a real font?
- No. These are separate Unicode characters that happen to look square. That is why the look survives copy and paste: you are not copying formatting, you are copying different characters.
- Why do numbers stay unchanged?
- Unicode defines no square numerals, so digits are left as they are. Every tool that claims otherwise is substituting digits from a different style, which looks inconsistent next to the letters.
- Will screen readers read this correctly?
- Usually not. Depending on the software the characters are spelled out with technical names or skipped entirely. Use the style for decoration, not for anything that has to be understood.
