Where these characters come from

Superscript characters were encoded for phonetics and mathematics, not for decoration. The set is uneven as a result: the digits and most lowercase letters exist, but the collection was assembled over several Unicode versions from different sources, so the characters vary slightly in height and weight.

What people use superscript text for

The main use is making text small rather than raised — a secondary line under a name, a disclaimer, a quiet aside. The characters were designed for phonetics, so the set is uneven: some letters sit higher than others, which is visible in longer runs.

How to get superscript text

  1. Type or paste your words into the box above.
  2. Find the Superscript row — it is the first one — and press Copy.
  3. Paste it wherever you need it. The style travels with the text, because you are carrying different characters rather than formatting.

Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere. If the text arrives plain instead of styled, the receiving field normalised it; that happens for a specific reason and no tool can prevent it.

The same thing goes by several names — superscript generator, superscript copy paste, tiny text, small text — and they all describe this one technique. There is no settled term, because nobody named these character sets for this purpose in the first place.

Superscript vs Subscript

Superscript has near-complete alphabet coverage; Subscript covers roughly half. If you need an arbitrary word rendered small, Superscript is the only one of the two that will convert all of it.

Subscript ₜₕₑ qᵤᵢcₖ bᵣₒwₙ fₒₓ

Known problems with superscript text

The set was assembled over several Unicode versions from different sources, so letter heights do not match — visible as a ragged top edge in longer runs.

These characters fail in four distinct ways across all styles — normalisation, missing font coverage, stripped combining marks and mixed-script rejection.

A note on screen readers

These are not fonts, they are separate Unicode characters. Screen readers often read them wrong or skip them entirely. What that means.

Common questions

Is superscript text a real font?
No. These are separate Unicode characters that happen to look superscript. That is why the look survives copy and paste: you are not copying formatting, you are copying different characters.
Will screen readers read this correctly?
Usually not. Depending on the software the characters are spelled out with technical names or skipped entirely. Use the style for decoration, not for anything that has to be understood.
