Small Caps Font Generator

Small capitals borrowed from the phonetic alphabet. There are no true small capitals for q and x, so those two differ.

Where these characters come from

These are not true small capitals. They come from the International Phonetic Alphabet, where each one denotes a specific sound, so the set was never designed as a complete alphabet. Two letters are missing entirely: there is no IPA small capital q or x, which is why those two break the pattern in every small caps tool, including this one.

What people use small caps text for

Small caps read as understated and typographic, which makes them the usual choice when someone wants a styled name that still looks deliberate rather than decorated. They are common in design and photography profiles, and in Discord nicknames where the goal is to look careful rather than loud.

How to get small caps text

  1. Type or paste your words into the box above.
  2. Find the Small Caps row — it is the first one — and press Copy.
  3. Paste it wherever you need it. The style travels with the text, because you are carrying different characters rather than formatting.

Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere. If the text arrives plain instead of styled, the receiving field normalised it; that happens for a specific reason and no tool can prevent it.

The same thing goes by several names — small caps generator, small caps font, tiny caps font, tiny capitals — and they all describe this one technique. There is no settled term, because nobody named these character sets for this purpose in the first place.

Small Caps vs Superscript

Both make text look smaller than its surroundings, but Small Caps keeps letters on the baseline while Superscript raises them. Small Caps reads as typographic and deliberate; Superscript reads as a footnote. For a styled name, Small Caps is almost always the better fit.

Known problems with small caps text

The q and x have no true small capital form and break the pattern visibly. Mixing phonetic characters can also trip mixed-script name filters.

These characters fail in four distinct ways across all styles — normalisation, missing font coverage, stripped combining marks and mixed-script rejection.

A note on screen readers

These are not fonts, they are separate Unicode characters. Screen readers often read them wrong or skip them entirely. What that means.

Common questions

Is small caps text a real font?
No. These are separate Unicode characters that happen to look small caps. That is why the look survives copy and paste: you are not copying formatting, you are copying different characters.
Why do numbers stay unchanged?
Unicode defines no small caps numerals, so digits are left as they are. Every tool that claims otherwise is substituting digits from a different style, which looks inconsistent next to the letters.
Will screen readers read this correctly?
Usually not. Depending on the software the characters are spelled out with technical names or skipped entirely. Use the style for decoration, not for anything that has to be understood.
